Lucas Torreira insists 'big club' Arsenal 'deserve' Champions League football

The sixth-place Gunners are in danger of missing out on Europe's No1 club competition for a third year in a row.

Unai Emery's side are fighting Chelsea and Manchester United for fourth spot but have picked up just 10 points from their last seven matches.

Fan favourite Torreira, 22, told Sky Sports News: "Just a few weeks ago, United were obviously behind us but it's happened and it's something we have to deal with.

"We obviously don't want that form to happen again.

"As players, you always need to be fighting for an objective when you walk out onto the pitch and for us that means qualifying for the Champions League.

"We know it's not going to be easy, that's for sure, because we are up against some great teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United.

"But we need to try and stand firm as a team and as a group and battle in every game.

"The squad is focused on qualifying for the Champions League because a big club like Arsenal deserves to be playing in that competition."

Emery's Gunners  travel to Huddersfield on Saturday before taking on BATE Borisov in the away leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.

The competition offers another route into the Champions League for the winners.

And Emery – who is dealing with severe financial constraints – will hope to continue his fine record in the tournament after winning it three times on the spin with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016.
