LeBron James, Lakers make pitch to Anthony Davis in win over Pelicans

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers might have won twice on Friday night — once in their clash with the New Orleans Pelicans and perhaps again in their attempts to convince Anthony Davis that this should be his next home.

The Lakers’ coveting of Pelicans big man Davis is the NBA’s worst-kept secret, and maybe not a secret at all any longer, with LeBron James admitting in a conveniently timed aside at the start of the week that it would be "amazing" to play alongside the 25-year-old star.

Los Angeles outlasted the Pelicans 112-104 on a night in which both James and Davis overcame illness to take the floor. But if the Lakers, and James in particular, wanted to give Davis — who scored 30 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in an impressive performance — food for thought, it accomplished their mission.

Davis was given a rousing reception from the Staples Center crowd, who made it clear he would be a welcome addition here were he able to force a trade out of New Orleans. James also seemed to do his best to show he can be an expert provider as well as a scorer, reeling off 14 assists, seven of them in the first quarter, to add to his 22 points.
