Lacazette defends ‘leader’ Ozil for lobbing jacket at Everton staff as he admits Arsenal players ‘didn’t do what Emery asked us’ in defeat

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE has defended Mesut Ozil in the wake of “coat-gate.”

Ozil appeared to lob his jacket in the direction of Everton staff as they clashed with Arsenal boss Unai Emery at the weekend.

Ozil had just been subbed and cut a frustrated figure as the Gunners crashed to a 1-0 defeat on Merseyside.

He has been heavily criticised in some quarters for putting in a lacklustre display, with Arsenal now in a desperate scrap for a top four finish.

However, Lacazette insists Ozil remains a leader in the Gunners’ dressing room.

And he believes the German is being unfairly singled out for criticism, claiming all of Arsenal’s players performed poorly.

Lacazette said: “Ozil’s a leader. Sometimes you do something you shouldn’t do.

“Sunday we all played bad. We didn’t do what the coach asked us.

“We still have confidence. We want to win a trophy, we are confident.”
