Hurling wrap: Clare and Limerick draw as Laois secure survival
Clare and Limerick played out a draw in Ennis, as three Division 1 games were postponed due to unplayable pitches.
Clare 2-11 Limerick 1-14, Division 1A
Clare fought their way back into the tie against the All-Ireland champions to rescue a draw. The Banner will feature in the quarter-final, barring a Cork victory over Tipperary and a draw between Kilkenny and Wexford when those round five games are rescheduled.
The Treaty burst into an early lead in Cusack Park, leading 1-7 to 0-6 at the break thanks to a Gearoid Hegarty goal. However, the Banner started brightly in the second half with Shane Golden raising a green flag shortly after play resumed. They took the lead after Peter Duggan netted, but the Treaty kept their nerve to dig out a result.
Clare maintain an impressive record in their Ennis fortress, losing just one of their last ten league and championship games at the venue.
Dublin 0-13 Laois 0-11, Division 1B
Mattie Kenny’s charges rallied late on to take the spoils in Parnell Park, but despite the disappointment of defeat, Laois retain their Division 1 status thanks to results elsewhere.
Eddie Brennan’s side led for much of the game, going in at the break, 0-7 0-6 to the good. However, the Dubs scored the last three points of the game to ensure victory, with Danny Sutcliffe striking two and Seán Moran pointing a 65.
The Sky Blues will finish on top of the Division 1B table if Waterford beat Galway in the final game.
Carlow 1-10 Offaly 4-8, Division 1B
Carlow will face Offaly again in the relegation play-off, after being beaten by the Faithful at home on Sunday afternoon. Goals proved crucial for Kevin Martin’s side, as Shane Dooley and Joe Bergin led the charge in what was an impressive win.
While it was their standout showing of the five-game campaign, it wasn’t enough to take Offaly out of trouble as they prepare to face Colm Bonnar’s charges once again, where the loser will be relegated to Division 2A for 2020.
Division 2A
Westmeath and Kerry will face off in the final, with a spot in next year’s Division 1 at stake. The Kingdom beat Meath 3-15 to 0-8 in Killarney, while Joe Quaid’s charges overcame Mayo, 2-12 to 0-6. Antrim edged past London, 1-16 to 0-17.
Division 2B
Wicklow overcame Derry, 2-16 to 0-16. The Garden County and the Oakleafers are both through to the decider. Donegal overcame Warwickshire 5-18 to 0-17, and they will face off once again in the relegation play-off. Meanwhile, Kildare overcame Down, 0-13 to 1-6.
Division 3A:
Louth 1-10 Monaghan 1-11
Tyrone 3-16 Armagh 1-16
Lancashire 2-13 Roscommon 1-6
Division 3B:
Fermanagh 1-13 Cavan 0-6
Longford 0-3 Sligo 3-15
