Gareth Bale spotted playing golf despite Zidane claiming he missed Real Madrid trip to Germany through illness – The Sun
GARETH BALE has been spotted playing golf – despite Zinedine Zidane claiming he missed yesterday's friendly against Spurs due to illness.
SunSport had revealed the Welshman was too distraught to travel with Los Blancos to Germany following the collapse of his mega-bucks move to China.
Bale, 30, was said to be devastated after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called off his £1million-a-week switch to Jiangsu Suning last week.
But Zinedine Zidane insisted the Welshman couldn't feature in the 1-0 loss to his former club Tottenham because he "didn't feel well".
The Los Blancos coach said: "The doctors said he was unwell and the best thing for him was to stay in Madrid. He’s training individually in Madrid.
"That was a decision that we made — the club, the doctors, myself and Bale, too."
FIRE IN THE HOLE
Zidane, however, has evidently been caught red-handed as Bale was fit enough to play golf at the Ciudad de Santander course, located ten miles away from Madrid, on Tuesday evening.
A picture of the Real outcast taking a swing was published by Spanish media outlet El Confidencial.
The Welshman's love for the game earned him a derisory nickname "The Golfer" among Los Blancos team-mates.
And he was seen teeing it up even when Real Madrid were just about to unveil Eden Hazard at the Bernabeu in June.
Bale's team-mates have publicly criticised him for failing to adapt to the Madrid way of life and learning basic Spanish.
And Zidane's bluff now only adds to the uncertainty surrounding the former Premier League star's future.
TIME TO BALE OUT
The French coach demanded him to be sold at any costs, saying "it would be best for everyone" if the winger left the Bernabeu as soon as possible.
Jiangsu Suning had agreed a deal with both Real and Bale, only for Perez to change his mind and demand a fee which resulted in the move collapsing – leaving both Zidane and the Welshman furious.
The Los Blancos star has not been offered any explanation over the last-minute U-turn or any reassurances over his role at Real.
Sources close to the player do not think an alternative move will now materialise this summer, with the Chinese transfer window shutting on Wednesday and Suning instead signing Ivan Santini.
That has left Bale convinced he will be left to rot in the Real stands while Zidane remains in charge, despite Perez’s hope that the former France international’s stance can be changed.
Bale’s £600,000-a-week contract still has three years to run, meaning Real could have to pay him over £90m not to play.
