Fuming Fernandinho rages 'f*** VAR' after Man City last-minute winner is ruled out against Spurs
FUMING Fernandinho raged "f*** VAR" after Man City were dramatically sent crashing out of the Champions League last night.
Raheem Sterling thought he had put Pep Guardiola's side into the semis with his injury-time winner – only for it to be ruled out by VAR because Sergio Aguero was found to be offside in the build-up.
And walking through the mixed zone after the clash, the Brazilian midfielder, 33, succinctly summed up how every City fan felt.
He was heard saying: "F*** VAR."
The Video Assistant Referee was also called into action to judge on Fernando Llorente's 73rd-minute goal.
It was thought the Spurs striker could have used his hand to knock the ball in but the goal was allowed to stand – although a previously unseen camera angle cast doubt on the decision.
Referee Cuneyt Cakir and the linesmen did not initially spot Aguero in an offside position.
But they were informed after the Etihad striker was seen out of position in the build-up to the goal after Christian Eriksen's back pass was diverted into his path by Bernardo Silva.
City boss Guardiola – who went from ecstasy to agony in the space of an unbelievable few seconds – said the defeat was "cruel".
He said: "It is cruel but it is what it is and we have to accept it. After 20 minutes we were 3-2 up.
"In the second half we created a lot of chances and we scored the goals we needed.
"Unfortunately, it was a bad end to us so congratulations to Tottenham and good luck for the semi-finals.
"I support VAR but maybe from one angle Fernando Llorente's goal is handball, maybe from the referee's angle it is not."
