Ex-NFL star Telvin Smith charged with unlawful sexual activity involving minor
Former Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful sexual activity with at least one minor, according to Florida’s Duval County Jail website. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Last May, the 29-year-old former Pro Bowler unexpectedly walked away from the NFL, declaring he wouldn’t play during the 2019 season because he had to “get [his] world in order.”
Smith has no previous criminal charges, though Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators were seen raiding his home and towing away a vehicle owned by Smith. News4Jax reported that case is still under investigation and another search warrant was issued Wednesday, when sources told the station that SWAT team officers drew their guns outside of Smith’s home, believing he had weapons inside.
The Jaguars, in a statement to ESPN, said they were aware of the alleged incident, but were unable to comment due to the investigation.
Smith was in the middle of a four-year, $50 million contract when he stepped away from the NFL.
