Elvis Kambosa spent 11 years in a refugee camp, now he’s in the A-League

Melbourne Victory youngster Elvis Kambosa grew up in Adelaide after arriving in Australia as a child following 11 years in a refugee camp in Tanzania.

But there was no sentiment involved with coach Kevin Muscat's decision to give the newly signed winger a debut at Hindmarsh Stadium on Wednesday night.

''He played one youth team game last week and he's just been showing and showing in his eagerness and willingness to learn that he was really desperate for an opportunity.

"I was really proud of him and pleased for him and his family that it happened to be here in Adelaide.''

Although he ended on the losing side, Kamsoba can hold his head up high.

He showed some nice touches, worked hard, linked well with his better known teammates and certainly looked as though he belongs at this level.

"It was a dream come true. I’ve worked so hard to get this opportunity, and to debut in front of so many friends and family is something I’ll remember forever," Kambosa said.

"Now that I’ve played one game I want to keep going and play a part in the team from now until the end of the season."
