Deontay Wilder says he was busy blowing partner Telli a kiss when Tyson Fury rose from the floor during epic draw – The Sun
DEONTAY WILDER was too busy blowing partner Telli Swift a kiss to realise Tyson Fury had risen from the canvas during a dramatic 12th round knockdown.
The WBC king twice decked the Gypsy King during their epic December thriller in LA that resulted in a contentious split-decision draw.
Fury was sent crashing to the floor with two minutes remaining following a devastating right hand and left hook from Wilder.
The Bronze Bomber, sure he had just pulled off a stunning final round KO, pranced around the ring, giving a “slit throat” celebration and blowing a kiss to his fiancee who was sat ringside.
But Wilder, 33, was left amazed as Fury somehow beat the count and took the fight to the scorecards.
The heavyweight champion told talkSPORT: “I was kissing my wife and everything, to see him rise l thought ‘what in the hell?’
“It is interesting for the sport and brings drama to the sport, I am happy to be part of the sport in these times
“The fight was amazing and controversial, the judges had it right, it was a a very close fight.
“I like Fury, he is an alright guy, he brings a different personality to the division.
“I know we say and do things before the fights but it is a part of the sport.”
Wilder, who has one child with Telli, one-year-old daughter Kaorii Lee, proposed to his partner last year – but the couple are yet to marry.
Fury, 30, claims the second fight against the WBC champion is “signed” for February.
Though The Bronze Bomber’s co-manager Shelly Finkel confirmed to SunSport on Thursday no date for the rematch has been finalised.
Wilder first rematches Luis Ortiz at the end of the year, while Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum revealed the Brit will stay busy with a September bout in Las Vegas.
