Barcelona fail to sell full 3,500 ticket allocation for Man Utd clash after £102 charge

BARCELONA have fallen well short of selling their 3,500 tickets for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg at Manchester United.

The Spanish giants are paying the price for charging United fans £102 for the return tie as Old Trafford chiefs responded by copying the fee for supporters going the other way.

Now the Manchester Evening News suggest the La Liga champions might only bring around 2,000 followers.

United were furious when Barcelona set huge ticket costs for the 4,610 fans expected to travel to the Nou Camp for the second leg on April 16.

So the Old Trafford hierarchy decided to match Barca's  charges and use the money raised to help fund a £27 subsidy for each United fan going to Spain next Tuesday.

A United spokesman said at the time: “We believe our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club.

“Similarly to Valencia in the group stages and Sevilla last season, we have taken the difficult decision to charge Barcelona fans for the home leg at Old Trafford the same amount Barcelona are charging for the away fixture.

“We will use the additional revenue gained from this to subsidise our travelling support by paying the £27 price difference for each of our travelling supporters.”

I'm told Barcelona haven't yet sold their full allocation of 3,500 tickets for their Champions League game at Old Trafford on Wednesday. #MUFC are expecting around 2,000 to make the trip
