Arsenal news LIVE: North London derby reaction as Gunners win 3-1, Locatelli transfer target – latest | The Sun

ARSENAL have BEATEN North London rivals Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates.
With the scores poised at 1-1, the game turned after half time, with Gabriel Jesus firing the Gunners ahead before Emerson Royal was sent off for a studs-up tackle on Gabriel Martinelli.
Then Granit Xhaka wrapped up the result with a third, to propel Arsenal back to the TOP of the Premier League overnight.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly waiting in the wings to swoop in for Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli.
The out-of-favour Italian has failed to live up to expectations since signing for the Old Lady in 2021.
And reports suggest that the Gunners could be willing to try and go in again for Locatelli.

Will to win
Cesc Fabregas has claimed William Saliba can be Arsenal's centre-back for "15 to 20 years".
The 21-year-old was superb yet again as the Gunners beat bitter rivals Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates this afternoon.
Saliba has now gone a staggering 720 MINUTES without being dribbled past – all eight of Arsenal's Premier League games this season
And club legend Fabregas reckons Saliba can be a stalwart for the Gunners until he's into his FORTIES.
He told BT Sport: "That was a fantastic complete performance.
"I’d like to mention the special name, the fact he was so good he made it look easy is William Saliba.
"I’m sorry but this boy was in France on loan and I was watching him very closely because an ex-Arsenal scout asked me three years ago when we were playing St Etienne in a cup match.
"I was rested so I was in the stand, he said 'watch this boy, I want to sign him'.
"He was 18, 19 and he was the best player on the pitch so that shows you the potential of this guy, he looks so easy, he could be Arsenal’s centre-back for the next 15 to 20 years."

Xhaka reacts to Arsenal win
Granit Xhaka, who was awarded the Man of the Match trophy after today's North London Derby, has praised his team for the performance this afternoon.
He said: “We were the better team from the very first second.
“We didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for this game because of the international break, but we saw in training on Friday that we were ready and we knew exactly what we wanted to do.
“We struggled a little bit after Tottenham scored, but in the second-half we were much better.
“This is my first derby goal in England and I am so happy to score and help the team. The team is the most important thing.”

Conte reacts to Tottenham defeat
The Spurs boss told BT Sport:
"I think the first half was in the balance. We had many chances to score. We made a big mistake with the last pass because we had great space. In the second half we conceded a second goal early and we could do much better.
"With the the red card, [went] the game. It was a really difficult game after that. We had to change totally then. It was the referee’s decision and I don’t want to comment.
"We had the opportunity to exploit much better and stay up and I repeat that I think we made big mistakes in the last pass and with easy passes but it happens and straight after the national team it is a bit difficult because players arrive at a different time.
"Now we have to move on but we know our role in this league and we have to try and do our best to stay close to the other teams at the top. I tried to give minutes to players because the game had ended and also to try and save energy.
"I wanted to give players time especially [Oliver] Skipp and [Matt] Doherty because we need the whole squad because we have many games in front of us in a short period."

Arteta reacts to Arsenal win
When speaking to BBC Sport, the Arsenal boss said:
"The players grabbed the game and deserved to win it. It was the whole team – starting from the back to front. They really connected today.
"I hope this will give them more belief that they can win at this level in the way we want them to play.
"We have connected with our supporters and when that happens it is a really powerful thing.
"We have a really meaningful opportunity to give a lot of people happiness on a beautiful day and we have delivered that and it is a really great feeling.
"We are focussing on what we are doing. This is a sign that we are going in the right direction. We need to maintain that now and go for it.
"You feel the desire and humility – they haven't won anything yet and that is important to have that humility, which is a big driver for us."

Loc and Key
Juventus are ready to offload Manuel Locatelli in January with Arsenal already interested in signing him, Italian media say.
The midfielder snubbed a switch to the Emirates following Euro 2020 as he opted instead to link up with the Old Lady from Sassuolo.
Locatelli joined on an initial two-year loan, with the Serie A giants obligated to turn his temporary stay into a permanent transfer for £30million.
But Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri has since been left underwhelmed by Locatelli's arrival.
And this has led to speculation over whether Paul Pogba will replace him in the line-up once the Frenchman is fully fit.
With Locatelli struggling to live up to his billing in Turin, the club are now ready to sell him, according to Calciomercato.
And they name Mikel Arteta's Arsenal as potential buyers in the winter window.
The Spaniard is known to be in the market for a new midfielder having failed to bring in Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz on deadline day.

Conte: Fearless Richarlison up for derby
Antonio Conte says Richarlison will walk into the cauldron of tomorrow’s North London derby showing no fear, writes TOM BARCLAY.
Unbeaten Tottenham go to arch-rivals Arsenal, who top the Premier League table, in a mouthwatering lunchtime kick-off.
And Spurs chief Conte is sure £60million star Richarlison has the kind of character to thrive in such a hostile atmosphere.
The Italian said: “He has no fear.
“He is a player that in every moment, also during the training sessions, he shows great commitment.
“But for sure the first thing that I see in him is that he has no fear.
“He is not scared about anybody.
“Not about the atmosphere, about the noise. He is really strong.
“It’s difficult to play against him because he has no fear.”

Memories from the top Thierr
This tweet referencing Thierry Henry might stir up derby passions as leaders Arsenal host third-placed Tottenham tomorrow.
But although the Gunners are favourites, it could be Spurs this time who have the more dangerous forward line overall – in Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Richarlison.

Arteta coy on Partey and Zinchenko fitness
Mikel Arteta says his Arsenal squad are “looking good” after returning from international duty – but he revealed little over FOUR players sweating on their fitness.
He said: “We’ve just finished the last training session. We had many players arriving yesterday so we’ve had a short period to prepare for the match, but the boys look in good condition.
When pushed upon the fitness of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey, the Spaniard was giving little away.
After a long pause, he smirked: “They are part of the team.”

Lift of the Gab
Gabriel Jesus is revelling in goals, game-time and topping the table.
The Brazil hero has swapped his squad role with champions Manchester City for the lead strike spot for Arsenal.
And ahead of tomorrow's home derby with third-placed Tottenham, the £45million summer buy revealed just how he happy he is.
He told ESPN Brazil he's now "free on the pitch, playing football with a smile on my face".

Telli part of Arteta's vision
Arsenal have renewed their interest in Manuel Locatelli, and could make a move for the Juventus midfielder in January.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who report that Juve are looking to raise funds through player sales.
Mikel Arteta has long been an admirer of the 24-year-old and attempted to sign him last year, only for the player to opt for Juve.
Locatelli initially moved to Turin on a two-year loan from Sassuolo, but the Old Lady have an obligation to make the deal permanent for €25m.
It is thought that Juve could immediately cash in by moving the Italian international on for a small profit.
