Anthony Davis is what Lakers need to lure Klay Thompson

Anthony Davis might be the biggest recruiter for a Lakers Big Three right now.

Warriors star Klay Thompson’s “attention will be on the Lakers” this offseason, according to ESPN, should a deal for Davis come to fruition. Thompson has long been rumored as one of the Lakers’ targets this summer as he’s set to hit free agency after eight seasons with Golden State.

Thompson could be heading south if the Warriors do not offer him a max contract, according to the report.

ESPN had reported Thompson was No. 2 on the Lakers’ offseason wish list behind Kawhi Leonard. Thompson had previously gushed about the idea of joining the Lakers, and certainly would help LeBron James construct Los Angeles’ own Big Three.

That has been James’ mission since signing a four-year contract in July. He recently started his public recruitment process, most notably praising Davis and what they could be together in a candid interview with ESPN. However, that recruitment might have started much earlier through a different median via Rich Paul, the agent whom both James and Davis share.

New Orleans expected Davis to jet after he linked up with Paul before the season, according to Sports Illustrated. While there was hope by way of Paul’s previous work (John Wall signed a massive extension with the Wizards), the Pelicans still tried to push Davis away from joining Paul, sources told the site.

The Pelicans plan to listen for offers on their All-Star big man, but wouldn’t pull the trigger unless they receive an out-of-this-world package, according to ESPN. Paul said Davis wants to be traded to a contender.

The Lakers are expected to make an aggressive push and have the assets to make it happen with former lottery picks Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball, along with Kyle Kuzma, all seemingly in play to land “The Brow.”
