ARSENAL have been left empty-handed in their pursuit of Samuel Umtiti.

It's said the defender will refuse to leave Barcelona this summer.

Unai Emery had been hoping to persuade the French World Cup winner to join him at the Emirates.

But Umtiti has no plans on leaving the Nou Camp and intends to win back his place in the starting XI after recovering from injury.

ARSENAL have made a £20million bid for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier.

Veteran Swiss ace Stephan Lichtsteiner has left the club after his contract expired.

And Unai Emery has now returned to his former club for Belgian right-back Meunier.

However, a deal is far from certain as Manchester United also prepare to make an offer.

And unfortunately for the Gunners, Meunier is a Red Devils fan.

ARSENAL’S chances of signing Mario Gotze have reportedly been dashed again as Borussia Dortmund line up contract talks with the World Cup winner.

It’s been claimed that Unai Emery is lining up a cut-price swoop for the 26-year-old after he overcame fitness problems to feature in 34 games this season.

Gotze is out of contract in 2020 and is yet to commit his future to Dortmund.

But the Germans have dashed Arsenal’s hopes of landing the playmaker after director Michael Zorc revealed talks are set to commence over a new deal.

He told Sport Bild: “We have heard rumours from England for years. As always, we are relaxed.

“Gotze has not approached us with a request to move. We are enjoying good exchanges with his father and advisor.

“At the beginning of the new season, we will sit down together (to discuss a new deal).”

ARSENAL have missed out on Lille star Nicolas Pepe.

L'Equipe claims Liverpool have won the race for the winger after having a £70million bid accepted.

Pepe was a top target for the Gunners after scoring 22 goals and assisting a further 11 in Ligue 1 this season.

Unai Emery was willing to pay £40m to bring the 24-year-old to the Emirates.

But Liverpool have blown their rivals out of the water after winning the Champions League.

And Pepe is now set to ply his trade at Anfield next term, despite additional interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
