Holding has recently recovered from an awful knee injury he picked up against Manchester United during a collision with Marcus Rashford last December.

Holding said: “David Luiz, funnily enough, ended up being here, but he messaged me out of the blue and I was a bit taken back by that.

“He just said, ‘It happens. You’ve got a great career ahead of you, just focus and you’ll be good’.

“I felt like, ‘If he’s doing that for me, why can’t I do that for someone else? It might just give them a little boost’.

“Philippe Senderos also got in touch, as did Ian Wright.”

JOSE ANTONIO REYES' dad has revealed how he and his wife are struggling to cope with their sons' tragic death aged 35.

The Arsenal great lost his life in a car accident in his homeland in June – leaving the football world in mourning.

And Francisco Reyes admitted life has been a struggle for the striker's parents on Spanish show Viva la Vida [Live Life]

He said: “When we are alone all we do is cry. We do not even speak because if we say something to each other, it is about something that makes us cry.”

  • DAVID LUIZ revealed why he left Chelsea for Arsenal.

The Brazilian told TalkSport: “I always liked Chelsea, no doubt. I saw a possibility of writing a new story in a new place, but I am forever grateful to Chelsea, to all people, to friendships that are for life.

“It was an individual decision made through honest conversation – between me and Frank Lampard, no one else.

“We had a different idea of the future of the game and that’s why I chose to take a new path.

“It’s always very difficult because of the rivalry, but I made the decision to leave Chelsea even before receiving Arsenal’s bid.

“As soon as I decided to leave Chelsea – after a few days – Arsenal’s proposal came, and as it was another great club, I didn’t think twice.”

  • ENGLAND confirmed today Reiss Nelson has pulled out of the U21 squad with a knee injury.

  • PAUL POGBA'S failed summer transfer and Manchester United's abysmal form is the reason the Frenchman has downed tools at Old Trafford, according to Arsene Wenger.

Having missed United's recent comprehensive defeat at West Ham and then the disastrous defeat at Newcastle on Sunday with an ankle injury, Pogba's absence is clearly felt by the Red Devils despite his below par performances this season.

And Wenger thinks his team-mates lack of ability is affecting Pogba's mindset.

He told beIN Sports: “First of all, I think Paul Pogba, since the start of the season, has never been completely fit injury wise.

“He doesn’t look fit, I’ve seen him the other night against Arsenal, he doesn’t look completely confident physically and he’s the type of player who has a huge physical power.

“He needs to be perfectly fit physically.

“After that, when a player wants to leave and you stop him from leaving, you know you go through a process of rebuilding the relationship that the first thing that suffers is the performances.

“I personally think he behaves as well like he knows that Man Utd at the moment is not the team to compete for the championship.

“And, plus the fact that he was stopped from going away, it looks like the two together a little bit tarnish his performances.”
