Winnie the Pooh Day: Best quotes from our fave bear to make your day brighter

As a self-confessed bear of very little brain, Winnie-the-Pooh has done very well in life.

And after having his own books, TV series, and two major films in the past two years alone, the ever popular fictional bear has now got his paws on the ultimate honour: His own national day.

Winnie-The-Pooh Day is officially today, with the date chosen to mark the birthday of author AA Milne, who based his books on his son Christopher Robin and his stuffed toy animals.

And while the stories of Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet and little Christopher Robin have now been charming children for years, adults might benefit from a second read as well.

For as well as his adventures in Hundred Wood, Pooh has proved to be quite the wise old bear indeed.

His little gems of wisdom could give any life coach a run for their money, so much so that Disney have now dubbed them “Poohisms”.

So could your life be sweeter by taking a leaf out of Pooh’s book? We look at his best nuggets…

On self belief…

It turns out Winnie-the-Pooh was surprisingly good with motivational messages to make you go after your dreams.

Just look at these encouraging snippets to help you reach your ambitions:

“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

“Never let things come to you, go out and fetch them.”

“Never stop dreaming.”

And how’s this for a lesson in knowing your own strengths and weaknesses?

“I wish I could jump like that. But some can and some can’t. That’s how it is.”

But remember: “It’s best to know what you’re looking for, before you look for it.”

On missed goals/mistakes

He also knew not to get to down when things don’t go your way… “Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

“My spelling is Wobbly. It’s good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.”

On trust and friendship…

Lovable Pooh’s quotes on fun and friendship could have a book of their own…

“We didn’t realise we were making memories. We just knew we were having fun.”

“A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.”

And before getting annoyed at a friend, maybe consider this…

“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

On love and dating…

And when it comes to love Pooh knows it’s the little moments that really count the most.

And who can disagree with that sentiment?

“A hug is always the right size.”

“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.”

On the importance of doing nothing…

While ambition is important, Pooh knew we also have to stop and take it slow once
in a while to really appreciate life…

“Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”

“People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.”

On looking after your body…

Sleepy Pooh only had two speed settings, dead slow and stop.

But he was aware of the need to look after yourself – whether that means working out… or just chilling out.

“A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise.”

On coping with loss…

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

On treating everyone how you would want to be treated…

Pooh was proud to be short and fat – but he would not have stood for any body-shaming….

“Just because an animal is large, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t want kindness.”
