Popular hairstyle older women should ‘avoid’ – ‘ages you more than you think’

There are many routes to go down when it comes to looking younger, from fashion to skincare to cosmetic treatments.

Women can also experiment with hair colour, style and cut to find the most youthful look for them.

Many women experiment with different hair colours to make themselves look a little younger, whether it’s colouring over grey strands or adding face-framing highlights.

However, the wrong colour can actually make a woman look far older than she is if her colour is not administered properly.

Alice Dawkins, hair expert at Milk + Blush spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about a hair colour look that is unintentionally ageing.

“However, there are certain hairstyles that you should avoid if you want to maintain a youthful appearance.”

Alice continued: “Blonde hair can look gorgeous when done correctly, but the wrong shade and unsuitable distribution of colour can actually age you more than you think.

Alice advised that women “opt for shades of blonde that compliment their skin tone”, as not all hues are suitable for all people. What may work for one woman could wash out another, for example.

The expert explained: “Cool undertones should choose platinum, ash, and sandy colours, whilst warm undertones are best suited to gold, honey, and caramel tones.

“If you are unsure of your undertone or what will look best, consult a salon professional who can best advise on what will look good.”
