Montauk’s iconic Memory Hotel angers activists with Blue Lives Matter flag
A day after Montauk’s Love at the End march to support Black Lives Matter drew celebs such as Julianne Moore, Sienna Miller and Naomi Watts, the town’s Memory Motel offended activists by hanging a Blue Lives Matter flag and posting it on Instagram.
“It’s a huge middle finger to the black people who work and live here,” one march organizer told Page Six. It removed the post after being called out in the comments.
Owner Brian Kenny told us the post was meant to give thanks to cops. “We worked effectively this July 4 weekend, hand in hand with the police, to keep our guests safe in the new world of [coronavirus.]”
He added that the flag “in no way was meant to look like we were taking a side.”
Kenny said that he’d “like to believe you can support law enforcement, BLM and first responders without slighting one side or the other.”
