Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Made A Very Interesting Friend In Prison

They say the friendships you make in prison are unlike any
other relationships – but is that a good thing?

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, of Jersey Shore fame, recently began an eight month stint in prison after
being found guilty of tax evasion. He’s serving
his sentence at Federal Correctional Institution, Otisville, in New York
state. This medium security prison is the current home to another famous
inmate – Billy McFarland, the creator of Fyre Festival. Not only that, but
rumor has it they are becoming fast friends.

Anyone who watched the Netflix documentary about Fyre Festival
knows that McFarland is incredibly charismatic – that’s how he was able to talk
so many people into spending
thousands on a music festival that didn’t exist. But he’s also a convicted
con man who was sentenced to six years for defrauding investors of $27.4 million.
In terms of the criminal hierarchy, he’s leagues apart from The Situation.

Why is ‘The Situation’ in prison?

The only certain things in life are death and taxes. Apparently,
Sorrentino only got half the memo, because he neglected to pay his and got
busted – big time.

Mike Sorrentino, 36, and his brother were both
indicted for neglecting to pay taxes on a whopping $8.9 million worth of
income. Sorrentino was sentenced to 8 months in prison and will be released on September
13, 2019.  He was also ordered to complete 500
hours of community service and pay $123,913 in restitution and an additional fine
of $10,000.

He previously struggled with drugs and obeying the law, but before his sentencing Sorrentino was on the road to turning his life around. The Situation married his college sweetheart Lauren Pesce in November 2018. The pair sees this prison sentence as a minor blip in their relationship.

Who is Billy McFarland?

Sorrentino and McFarland might be getting close while they’re stuck
together behind bars, but The Situation will have to wait a few years before
they can be reunited in the outside world. Unlike Sorrentino, Billy McFarland
was sentenced to six
years in prison.

Both Netflix and Hulu released documentaries about the Bahamian-based Fyre Festival that was marketed as a luxury music event. McFarland and his friend Ja Rule sold tickets with promises of big-name performers and upscale accommodations. Instead, concert attendees arrived to find soggy tents, half-built stages, and not enough bottled water. The concert was canceled shortly after people got there.

Even though McFarland was famously quoted during the documentary saying he’d
“never go to prison,” it turns out that was a big lie just like his epic disaster
of a music festival. Now McFarland is claiming he’s a changed man and is eager
to make it up to the people he cheated. But his critics? They think once a con
man, always a con man.

Is ‘The Situation’ making any other friends in prison?

It sounds like being in prison isn’t all that terrible – it’s certainly nicer and more organized than Fyre Festival, anyway. Fellow Jersey Shore castmates Vinny Guadagnino and Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio described Sorrentino’s prison life as being pretty casual, where prisoners live in trailers with no bars, visitation is low-key, and the inmates all play Scrabble together.

Besides McFarland, Mike Sorrentino is also reportedly hanging out with Ryan Collins, who was convicted of hacking into celebrity email accounts and exposing nude photos of celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, and Kate Upton.

It would be fascinating to be a fly on the wall for those conversations.
