Meghan Markle’s brother hopes baby will ‘open her eyes to what family means’

Meghan Markle's estranged brother hopes that her baby boy will "open her eyes to what family means".

There has been a rift between Meghan and her father's side of the family since days before her wedding to Prince Harry in May last year.

It was revealed that her dad Thomas Markle had staged paparazzi photos of him preparing for the wedding.

And days later it emerged, via celebrity gossip site TMZ, that he had suffered a heart attack and would not make it to St George's Chapel.

The entire affair appeared to play out entirely in the media with reports of Meghan's emotional phone calls to her unwell father.

In the end, Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother, was the only one of her family members to attend the wedding.

Thomas Markle Jr, who flew to the UK 12 months ago despite not having an invite, told The Sun: "Hopefully this baby will help mend the family rift – we'd all love to meet the baby and become a part of his life – especially my dad.

"I'm hoping that becoming a mother will open up her eyes and shed light on what family means."

Thomas Markle Sr has not seen his daughter since she was wed but continues to sporadically give press interviews on their relationship – something thought to irk the Duchess of Sussex.

He was the only close family member not mentioned in the official birth announcement by Buckingham Palace.

A source close to him told The Sun : “Despite what has transpired over the last year, this is a very proud moment for him.

“He does not want to do anything to upset anybody at this time.

“And he is hoping that in the aftermath of the birth of his grandson, a rapprochement can be made.”

Meghan's half-sister Samantha has given several excoriating interviews taking aim at Meghan for "ghosting" her family.

Samantha has been criticised for "trashing" her family, most notably by Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan.

She is thought to be writing a book – critical of Meghan – about growing up with her.
