Lee Rigby killer Michael Adebolajo ‘works as de-radicalisation mentor in prison’

One of the killers of Kee Rugby is working in prison as a de-radicalisation mentor, according to reports.

Michael Adebolajo is said to have taken on an unofficial role at HMP Woodhill – the same prison where London Bridge attacker Usman Khan was an inmate.

Adebolajo, 34, renounced extremism last year and said sorry to the family of the 25-year-old fusilier.

The jihadi was given life for murdering Lee and according to The Sun on Sunday he has been assisting pastoral prison workers to help extremists reform at HMP Woodhill.

A source told the paper: “Michael’s U-turn has been astonishing but he insists he is on the path of reform and has been helping to talk to other prisoners about the importance of staying on the right path.

“He tells others that he made a drastic mistake and is trying to encourage others to shun extremism and not go down the path he went down.

“He was in the prison at the same time as Usman Khan."

Last month Khan killed two reform workers after he attacked people indiscriminately at a prison rehabilitation seminar close to London Bridge.

He was shot dead by police after being wrestled to the ground by members of the public.

In 2010 he was jailed for 16 years in 2010 for plotting to blow up the London Stock Exchange.

However two years later, while serving his sentence in Woodhill, Khan is reported to have repeatedly renounced his radical ways until he was released halfway through his sentence.

Adebowale and accomplice Michael Adebolajo ran over the 25-year-old soldier close to Woolwich barracks in May 2013 before stabbing him to death in broad daylight.

The father of one died as a result of multiple cut and stab wounds after the attack fuelled by Adebowale and Adebolajo's extremist beliefs described as a "betrayal of Islam" at their murder trial in 2014.

The killer, who cited the Koran moments after the 2013 atrocity, has admitted he “misinterpreted” Islam’s holy book.

He admitted he was brainwashed and said his attack on Lee was “a misguided attack on an institution”.

In 2017 it was reported that Adebolajo was a 'charismatic prisoner'.
