Kind plumber fixes boiler of elderly woman dying of leukaemia for free

A kind hearted plumber installed a little extra goodwill in the world by helping out an elderly woman with leukemia.

James Anderson was called out to the home of the 91-year-old customer in order to fix her boiler.

When the 52-year-old from Burnley arrived at the property he quickly realised it wasn't a typical call out.

Not only was the homeowner in her tenth decade, she was being given end of life care for the vicious cancer.

"I went round on Sunday September 8th and it was clear that the expansion vessel in the boiler had gone," James told the Manchester Evening News.

"I ordered the part so that I could make the repair.

"But for the next few days, I popped into her house every morning and sometimes in the afternoon and evening to check on the boiler so that her house would be kept warm."

As well as going the extra mile with the repair job, the kind-hearted tradesman wrote out a special invoice.

"Calllout to Boiler high pressure and 2 leaks… lady is 91 years of age acute leukaemia end of life care Amount 0.00," it read.

"No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hour to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible."

When James emailed the woman's daughter Christine with the invoice she was overwhelmed.

"I just went on to my next job," he explained.

"At first, the lady – Christine – didn't understand what I meant when I'd said it was free. She was absolutely over the moon and amazed.

"I told her not to worry about her Mum and that we'd look after her for any work that needed doing."

News of the kindhearted deed has since been spread far and wide online.

"It was just phenomenal, it skyrocketed," James said of his new found viral fame.

"When I first visited the lady, she was just lying on a bed chair in her living room and she didn't look too well. I had to help and I can't not do it for free."
