Holby City petition passes 30,000 signatures as fans campaign to save the show

A Holby City petition on Change.org has already passed 30,000 signatures as fans continuing campaigning to save the show.

News broke on Wednesday (June 2) that after twenty-three years, Holby City will be going off air.

A statement from the BBC read: ‘We sometimes have to make difficult decisions to make room for new opportunities and as part of the BBC’s commitment to make more programmes across the UK, we have taken the difficult decision to bring the show to a close in order to reshape the BBC’s drama slate to better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the country.’

Barely an hour into the news breaking, a Holby City fan – Jon Rodd – set up a petition and five days into it being published, it’s already received over 30,000 signatures.

On the petition page, Jon wrote: ‘If like me and my family, you care so much about this program please share and sign this petition.

The pandemic has shown how highly the public value the NHS, and Holby City is an important representation of the work that the NHS does, and the issues the NHS and its staff and patients face.’

The current number of signatures stands at 32,196 with 35,000 being its next huge goal. The petition page is flooded with comments from fans about the importance of the medical drama.

Change.org UK have already shared the petition on their Twitter page which has attracted plenty more signatures.

After 23 years on air, @BBCHolbyCity will be cancelled in 2022.

Jon says “Holby City is an important representation of the work that the NHS does”, and is petitioning @BBCOne to save the award winning show.
