Five-step hack for crispy croquettes – and they’re as tasty as roast potatoes

A foodie showed how to make a bowl of delicious croquettes – dubbed Tater Tots – in five simple steps.

Montana, from Brisbane, Australia, shares her passion of cooking with fans on TikTok.

An in a recent video, she shared a top tip for making crispy fried spuds with a fluffy soft texture inside.

In her video, which has now been viewed more than 4.3 million times, the cooking guru grabs a potato while giving instructions: "Peel and grate your potatoes.

"Cook the grated potatoes for about five minutes in olive oil and salt."

Then she removes them and drops them in cling film-covered glass container.

As she presses the parboiled spuds with a spatula, she moulds them into a rectangular shape and keeps them in a freezer until they turn solid.

Then when they're ready, use a neutral flavoured oil like vegetable or canola to fry.

To check if the oil is hot enough, use Montana's handy hack.

She recommended: "Test it with a chopstick – it will bubble when it's ready."

The next step is to chop the frozen potatoes into cubes and toss them in cornflour before dropping them into the oil.

The cooking time takes about five to seven minutes.

Just make sure you season them when they turn golden and crispy.

Viewers joked they started "grating potatoes" as soon as they heard the crunchy sound.

She told us: "You want a starchy potato so all the strands of potato stick together and don’t fall apart when you fry them.

"It's best to get a cheese grater for the job. You technically could dice them really finely with a knife but it’d take ages.

"The dish probably takes two to three hours in total including freezing time."
