The ex-girlfriend of a Brad Pitt lookalike has hit back at his claims that they split because she couldn’t handle the attention he received, insisting it was his weekends of partying that drove them apart – and that he only got stopped by fans ‘a handful of times’ when they were together.

Monica Cherrill, 28, of Bicester, Oxfordshire, was in a relationship with Nathan Meads for 11 years, after first meeting him when she was 16.

They began dating in 2008 after chatting on Bebo and had two little girls, now aged nine and four, but split in 2017.

Nathan, 33, of Oxford, claimed earlier this week that his uncanny likeness to the Hollywood hunk means he ‘can’t go anywhere’ without being stopped by starstruck strangers.

‘I can’t go into shops, you see them behind the counter nudging each other, thinking I’m Brad Pitt,’ he explained.

Nathan said the attention broke up his relationship with the mother of his children, claiming: ‘She hated that we couldn’t go anywhere without girls coming up to me and asking me for photos.’

But stay-at-home-mum Monica said she had ‘no problem’ with him going to events and thought it was ‘great’ – until they escalated into weekends clubbing, drinking and partying.

‘In actual fact, it was him who decided to end our relationship,’ she told FEMAIL, adding that he would stay on long after the events had finished instead of coming home to her and his girls.

Monica said their relationship at the beginning was lovely, but not long after they welcomed their second child she began to feel he didn’t love her anymore.

She told how he began doing lookalike work seven months before they split, and admitted the attention he received put a strain on their family.

Monica added that during their relationship, Nathan was only stopped on the street ‘a handful of times’ due to his likeness to the actor.

‘It wasn’t a massive issue like we couldn’t leave the house or anything,’ she recalled.

‘The main issue I had was the fact that he would have weekends away at events rather then spending time at home with me and his children as a family.

‘I even asked on a few occasions if I would be able to attend the event with him but he said I wouldn’t be allowed.’

Monica said they both realised their relationship was coming to an end with the more events he got asked to do and the less time they spent together.

‘I then realised that I found myself falling out of love with him as a result of this and the jealousy of him having fun at events when I was just being Mum at home all the time,’ she said.

Nathan dreams of quitting his job and becoming a full-time Brad lookalike and already gets paid up to a grand for appearances

The builder says he gets so much female attention from delighted fans that he now even answers to the name Brad (pictured: Brad Pitt in Seven)

‘When the relationship ended, at first it was a shock to the system but I was heartbroken for our children.

‘Growing up myself without a father and knowing how upset that made me feel, I didn’t want my children to feel the same pain as what I went through.’

She said her and Nathan get along better now they’re no longer together, and that the children have an ‘amazing relationship with their dad’.

While Nathan has a new partner, Monica is currently single after a long-distance relationship fizzled out.

‘I am concentrating on being the best mum I can be for my daughters until Mr Right comes along – no lookalikes please,’ she joked.

Nathan, who makes £30,000 a year as a builder, dreams of quitting his job and becoming a full-time Brad lookalike and is already paid between £500 and £1,000 for a day’s work as the Fight Club star.

But Monica admitted she ‘can’t see’ the likeness, but conceded: ‘In some photos of the actual Brad Pitt in his younger years there is a slight resemblance.’
