The upcoming first anniversary of Prince Philip's passing is set to be marked with a memorial service, which will see the royal family gather to celebrate his life.
The Duke of Edinburgh sadly passed away on 9 April 2021 at the age of 99, yet the memorial will be held a few days prior to the actual anniversary date.
The service is set to give thanks for the Duke of Edinburgh and his lifelong "dedication to family, nation and Commonwealth", while recognising the importance of his legacy in "creating opportunities for young people, promoting environmental stewardship and conservation, and supporting the Armed Forces".

When and where is Prince Philip's memorial?
The Service of Thanksgiving, to celebrate Prince Philip's life, will take place on Tuesday 29 March at Westminster Abbey.
The Duke of Edinburgh had a "long association" with the Abbey, and it is where he and Elizabeth tied the knot back in November 1947.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that a memorial would be taking place back in December. At the time, the Palace said: "The Queen has agreed that a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, will take place in the spring of 2022 at Westminster Abbey."
What will happen during Prince Philip's memorial?
Many members of the royal family will gather to celebrate the life of the Duke of Edinburgh, and they will also be joined by representatives from many of the organisations that he supported.
The Band of Royal Marines will provide music before and after the service, as a way of highlighting Prince Philip's lengthy relationship with the Armed Forces.
Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal Choirs will provide music throughout the course of the service, which, according to the BBC's website, will feature "readings and music close to the duke’s heart."
Who will attend?
Most senior members of the royal family are believed to be attending the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Queen Elizabeth is expected to also be in attendance, but this is yet to be confirmed by the Palace. Her Majesty and Philip's four child, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew are all thought to be heading to the memorial service too.
Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn are all said to be on the guest list.
Alongside royal guests, there will also be over 500 representatives of the Duke's charities and organisations at the memorial – which is an invite-only event.
The BBC website states: "Members of the royal family and members of the duke’s family will attend, as well as representatives from the many organisations the duke supported who were unable to attend the funeral, which was scaled down due to Covid-19 restrictions."
Where to watch
The Service of Thanksgiving will be televised live on BBC One, from 10.30am until 12.15pm.
BBC news anchor Huw Edwards, who led the coverage of Prince Philip's funeral, will present the show.
The coverage will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer after its initial broadcast.
