Ellen DeGeneres pokes fun at Trump in viral revenge video
It’s all fun and games until someone messes with Ellen.
Ellen DeGeneres is getting back at President Donald Trump for interfering with the season premiere of her show “Game of Games.”
Trump’s Tuesday night Oval Office address on his conflict over a Mexican border wall went overtime, leading NBC to postpone DeGeneres’ show and play a rerun episode instead.
DeGeneres, ever the lover of playful revenge, used her ace production team to poke fun at the prez.
“The government shutdown is still happening and affecting everyone, including me,” says DeGeneres in a clip posted to Instagram and YouTube Wednesday night. “The next time the president wants to make an announcement, he can do it like this.”
The video then cuts to a shot from the most iconic moment of DeGeneres’ game show, a segment called “Know or Go,” where participants answer trivia questions while standing on a trap door 30 feet in the air. If they answer a question wrong, a delighted DeGeneres gets to drop them.
Trump is shown giving his Tuesday night speech while standing on the “Know or Go” platform. DeGeneres presses her button of doom, sending him flying down, with his infamous hair flying off his head in the pratfall process.
This is just the latest mean-spirited moment from the funny lady.
DeGeneres, known for her slogan “Be kind to one another,” has been in hot water for her newfound cold attitude. She recently defended comedian Kevin Hart, who was booted from hosting the Oscars after homophobic tweets surfaced.
DeGeneres, who famously came out in 1997 and is an open champion of LGBTQ rights, received backlash for what some viewed as abusing her “vanilla” privilege.
The star has been open about her attempt to rebrand from the “nice” reputation she cultivated. In an interview with the New York Times, DeGeneres made it clear she felt “trapped” by this representation of herself, and is actually a much darker person than she appears to be on her show.
With her new Netflix stand-up special and game show, it’s clear DeGeneres is moving away from her daytime talk show. (Will anyone miss her, though?) In fact, wife Portia de Rossi reportedly wants DeGeneres to quit the show altogether to pursue other ventures that are worthy of her talents.
