Eerie pictures of abandoned theme park in South Korea

GIVEN the thousands who fork out top dollar to get into Disneyland and Alton Towers every day, it's hard to believe that theme parks could ever close because of lack of interest.

But a series of photographs of an abandoned theme park in South Korea show that not everyone is interested in dodgems and roller coasters.

The eerie collection of images by Belgian photographer Bob Thissen show an overgrown theme park called Gaya Land in the city of Gimhae.
The park opened in 1991 but was forced to shut in November 2011 because of a lack of visitors.
In the five years since, many of the rides have become completely overgrown with brambles and weeds as mother nature reclaims her land.

Bob spent a couple of days exploring the abandoned theme park, which has laid to waste on the outskirts of the city.

In Bob's pictures, old fairground rides like a Ferris wheel, a helter skelter and a magic carpet ride are all covered in a thick layer of dust.
He said: 'Some parts of the amusement park are so overgrown you can’t get close to the attractions.
'Scattered around the park you can find all kind of illegal Disney figures.'
