Care home boss shows off luxury life after saying she can’t afford to pay staff
A care home boss who told staff she could not afford to pay them until after Christmas posted photos online of her luxury lifestyle.
Claire Fryer, 36, who lives in a £1.4million home, uploaded images of a shopping trip to London in which she boasts about “treating herself” to a £195 Advent calendar from posh store Liberty and a designer coat.
She also spoke of outings to Edinburgh and Newcastle.
The photos angered staff at Radcliffe Gardens care home in Pudsey, West Yorks, which is run by Mrs Fryer’s firm.
After residents were moved out following a damning report of the home by the Care Quality Commission, Mrs Fryer told staff wages would be delayed due to “financial difficulties”.
Cook Lee Naylor said: “The calendar cost more than my mortgage. I explained I had no way of paying it.”
Leeds City Council says it has paid all fees due.
It said in a statement: “Leeds City Council has rigorously checked to ensure that all fees due to be paid in respect of Radcliffe Gardens Nursing Homes by the council have been paid.
“There is no evidence of overdue payments or money owed.
“We have done our best to support staff from the home, signposting them to organisations who can offer support in these circumstances.”
Mrs Fryer has been contacted for comment.
