Brits so clueless about food that one in 10 think tofu is a type of mushroom

Millions of Brits have no idea where everyday food comes from – with one in 10 believing tofu is a type of MUSHROOM, according to a study.

A clueless 1.3 million adults reckon bacon is sourced from cows while a fifth mistakenly think veal comes from a deer – rather than a calf.

And 11 per cent reckon tea is grown in the UK, when most of it is shipped in from Asia.

A quarter can't identify where salami comes from, and a third don't know that classic baked beans are made with haricot beans.

The study, of 2,004 UK adults by meal kit company HelloFresh, also found a fifth are unaware of what fruits and veg are available during the different seasons.
