Body pulled from Thames near George Clooney’s home in search for missing man

A man's body has been pulled from the River Thames in the hunt for a missing man who vanished two weeks ago.

Police were called to the scene after the remains were spotted just 300 yards from the £10 million Aberlash House, which George and Amal Clooney bought in 2014.

Detectives believe the body belongs to Bogdan Skarbeck, 49, who was reported missing in Reading on December 3, although formal identification is yet to take place.

His family has been informed and are being supported by officers.

Officers are not treating the incident as suspicious.

Thames Valley Police officers were called to reports of a man in the water off Thames Street, Sonning, on Friday December 13.

Sonning, whose residents include Prime Minister Theresa May and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, is four miles downstream on the Thames from Reading.

Many of the riverside paths are underwater and anyone losing their footing could be swept away by rising waters.

Mr Skarbek, of Reading, was last seen leaving work in Craddock Road, Reading, on his bicycle, a grey female model mountain bike, on Thursday November 14.

He was due to return to work on November 17, but failed to do so and was reported missing to police on December 3.

Police said his disappearance was 'out of character' and concern was growing for his welfare.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Richard Jarvis of Reading CID said earlier "We know that Mr Skarbek made contact with a woman living in Poland over that weekend, but the last time he was seen was on November 14.

"His route to work would have been along the canal on the A33 from Craddock Road to and from Argyle Street.

"He is known to have his wallet with him, but has left all other belongings at home, including his mobile phone, and there has been no bank activity since his last sighting, which is very concerning.

"Mr Skarbek has not been in contact with his family, who live in Poland, for several weeks. He usually makes contact with them every Sunday.

"This is completely out of character for Mr Skarbek, and our concern is growing for his well-being.

"We don't believe he has any close friends in the UK.

"I would also appeal directly to Mr Skarbek if he sees this.

"We are concerned for you and ask you to contact us. You 're not in trouble, but we want to ensure your welfare."
