Body painter’s works are welcome distraction from coronavirus
Body painter Trina Merry is putting the “Oh!” in Picasso.
Merry’s latest works combine cunningly painted nude models with famous works of art — and were completed just recently, in the weeks before COVID-19 made her line of work a little too socially proximate to keep doing.
“I guess I’m just going to have to paint my boyfriend now,” Merry joked Friday, in a phone call from her home in Dallas.
“He was managing a restaurant, but like everybody he’s unemployed — so he has all the time in the world to be my model,” she said. “But that also means good food for me — I will art, he will food. It’s great.”
Merry body-paints for a living from studios in New York, California and Dallas. She has a client list so varied, it includes Fiat, Iggy Pop and Istanbul’s Schizophrenia Awareness Week, which commissioned her for a print campaign.
But this latest project, which includes such masters as Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe, was a labor of love.
She did it not for the money, but for the Monet.
