Beyoncé’s father Mathew Knowles says the singer has given him ‘love and care’ through his battle with breast cancer – but admits he struggles with the fear the disease will come back

Beyoncé and Solange’s dad Mathew Knowles says his children ‘know he’s a fighter’ following his surgery for breast cancer.
The former Destiny’s Child manager, 66, underwent surgery in July and has changed his entire lifestyle, but admitted he still struggles ‘psychologically’ with the fear his disease will return.
He appeared today on Good Morning Britain, where he opened up about how his daughters have coped following his diagnosis, and says he appreciates the ‘love and the care’ his children have given him in this ‘tough time’.

The former Destiny’s Child manager appeared o Good Morning Britain today where he opened up about up about how his daughters have coped following his diagnosis
He said: ‘My daughters love their father, obviously and I love my daughters. So the love and the care, it’s always good to have family in tough times.
‘But my kids know how tough their dad is and a what a fighter I am.
‘But I’m also very cautious and doing all these things – it’s a lifestyle change. I stopped drinking, working out, loosing weight, all of those things.
‘Also it’s a mental thing, every time you have a cold or anything you immediately think it’s cancer coming back. So it’s a psychological thing you have to work on, so i’m working on that.’
Breast cancer is rare in men, and the record executive insisted that ‘early detection’ is key, having spotted the illness after noticing bloody discharge on his clothing.

He told how his former career selling radiography equipment – alongside a long running family history of the disease – prompted him to get checked.
He said: ‘In my corporate career with the medical division of Xerox, I actually sold radiography for breast cancer detection for eight years.
‘So who would have thought that would have actually saved my life?
‘That and early detection as well, I knew my family history as my aunt, her mother, her sister my first cousins all had died of breast cancer.’
When quizzed on sharing the news of his diagnosis with his daughter, he said: ‘ It was tough to have to tell them that, but as genetically it’s all my family members.’

He went on to explain that both his daughters are happy to see him fulfill his passion and spreading the message that early detection is key in surviving cancer

He said: ‘I am enjoying life but they also realize that, they understand what I think about living your passion.
‘The music industry entertaining people, telling people my story about music and health.
‘I’m here today telling my story and I will be travelling all over the world telling my story and living my passion.’
Mathew has both a book and musical based on 90s girl group Destiny’s Child coming out, and will soon be releasing a never before heard album from the band.
He said: ‘We like to think 2020 is the year of Destiny’s Child. Hopefully in years to come there will be a Destiny’s Child tour.
Speaking of the forthcoming album, he added: ‘ ‘It’s new never released actually they were in the studio in 1992/3, that’s how far back this goes.’
