A woman has shared a genius trick for keeping yourself nice and cosy for free, using just an old sock and some rice.


Net Zero Company shares tips on how to reduce waste and save money on its TikTok channel.

In one video, a woman can be seen turning an old sock into a hand warmer.

Beginning the video, the woman said: "If you've got a sock that's missing its pair – turn it into a hand warmer."

She explained that all you need to do is cut off the bottom and top parts of the sock, so you are left with a square shape.

You then turn the sock inside out and sew up the bottom half.

After this, you can fill the sock up with with dry rice.

Sew up the other end of the sock to seal it and there you have it.

The woman said: "Throw this thing in the microwave and you've got your very own hand warmer."

She explained that you only need to pop it in the microwave for 15-20 seconds and added that the hand warmer should stay hot for around 15-20 minutes, so its perfect for short walks or trips to the shop.

TikTok users rushed to the videos comments section to praise the nifty hack.

One user said: "I saw this video and i just made two! they are awesome thanks!"

Another user added: "I just made one for my mom and also smells really good and it’s really easy to make."

One user suggested that as an alternative, you could put the sock in the freezer and use it as an ice pack.

They said: "I do something very similar to this! I put rice in a sock, sew the top and keep it in the freezer in case you ever have a fever or you fall down."

Other users suggested that you could use the whole sock and tie it up at the end if you are unable to sew and added that this could be used more like a hot water bottle to help with period cramps.
