Skincare pros warn why you should NEVER use a make-up wipe to clean your face – and you won't believe your eyes | The Sun
HANDS up if you’ve ever used a make-up wipe at the end of a long day to clean your face before heading off for your beauty sleep.
If the answer is yes, you may want to rethink that decision in the future – at least that's the opinion of some skincare pros.
Two best friends, who jointly run a TikTok account called Lucky To Be Skincare, have shared the realities of removing your make-up with a simple wipe.
The duo, who described themselves as “on their journey to find the best skincare routine,” firmly ruled out using wipes regularly – as they showed what really happens to your pores during the process.
In a video posted to their TikTok account called @luckytobeskincare, the ladies chose to show what they meant using a large strawberry.
They took the red piece of fruit, smothered it in suncream and then reached for a make-up wipe to show how clean it would become – or so they thought.

But the clip, which was captioned “this is your skin being cleaned with a make-up wipe,” soon revealed that a make-up wipe only appears to remove the dirt and grime.
Instead of removing all of the excess liquid, the wipe only got the top layer off, before allowing the SPF to sink further into the fruit.
This was a metaphor for the wipe failing to clean the deeper pores and only doing so on a surface level.
In another clip posted using exactly the same footage, Lucky To Be Skincare hammered their point home further when they wrote: “Make-up wipes don’t really clean your skin.”

And in a follow-up video, one of the pair explained that she thought that make-up wipes are completely “worthless.”
She explained: “Let’s say the strawberry is your skin and the seeds are your pores.
“I spread sunscreen on it and I want to show you what it’s like to remove sunscreen and make-up with a make-up wipe.”
As the wipe smothered the suncream around, rather than removing it, she continued: “Make-up wipes don’t effectively cleanse skin, or remove make-up.
Make-up wipes don’t effectively cleanse skin, or remove make-up
“Notice how the make-up wipe just pushes the dirt and make-up around your skin, or doesn’t cleanse any of it away.”
After showing the evidence, the skincare pro then urged fellow beauty lovers to “always follow through with double cleansing.”
Double cleansing is repeating the way in which you wash your face to ensure all dirt is removed – even from deeper within the pores.
