Savvy shopper shares tip to get £30 off a pair of GHDs – but not everyone’s sure it’s a good deal

PEOPLE have been shopping up a storm of late as many popular stores have had a range of heavily discounted goods on offer.

Eager to snag a bargain herself, one savvy shopper managed to score £30 of a new GHD hair straightener from Very and took to Facebook to share her thrifty tip.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group she revealed that she only paid £62.99 for the popular hair styling tool which was already on sale for £89 – plus an additional £3.99 for shipping.

In order to get the discount, however, shoppers have to sign up to a Very account, and only when you pay using the account will shoppers be rewarded with £30 back into their account to use on the site.

The savvy shopper revealed that she only signed up with an account to get the £30 off, and straight away paid the amount in full using her debit card -rather than waiting out the three months given to customers who opt for "Take 3" payment option.

She said: "Thank you to the person who posted about the Ghd… did a bit of searching around and very had the same price.

"But if you create a new account and if you pay on the account (which you can then pay in full) you get £30 back! New ghd with delivery for £62.99!"

Some people warned against the Take 3 payment method- which allows you to pay off your purchase over three months – claiming that it'sleft many shoppers in debt because of the 39.9% interest that's applied if you don't meet the the payment due date set by the company.

"Please be careful using Very. If you don’t pay in the allocated time the interest rate is 39.9%. People have got in to serious debt through these," one shopper warned.

And another said: "I hope everyone knows its only credit to the Very account which you can only spend obviously on Very, not your actual bank account."

But the original poster insisted the shopping tip is handy if you instantly pay the owing amount – which she did -so you aren't at risk of paying interest and causing debt.

She said:"It credits it to the account so instead of owing the £92 I only owed £62 which I then [paid off] just did it to save the £30."

Elsewhere, other eagle-eyed shoppers managed to snap up the same GHD for £69 in a super quick flash sale on ASOS yesterday.

The item is usually priced at £109 from the popular online clothing store but is currently reduced to £87.20- with the flash sale through the app offering an additional 20% off the already discounted price.

Despite the sale ending at 9pm last night, some shoppers revealed the sale was on offer again this morning.

So if you're in need of a new hair straightener but don't want to sign up for a credit account, then keep your eyes peeled because it looks as if ASOS is your best bet.
