Meghan Markle pens heartfelt thank-you note to Australian model featured in her Vogue issue – The Sun

SHE'S BEEN busy launching a new clothing collection – but Meghan Markle has still found time to personally thank those who took part in the Vogue issue she recently guest-edited.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, sent a heartfelt thank-you note to Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech who was one of the 'Forces For Change' to appear on the cover of the magazine last month.

Taking to her Instagram Story, the 19-year-old – who was chosen by the new royal mum to feature alongside Salma Hayek, Jacinta Ardern and Jameela Jamil on the front of the September issue of British Vogue – revealed she had received a sweet message from Prince Harry's wife in the post.

"Thank you for being a part of my September issue of British Vogue," it reads, in Meghan's famously "perfectionist" handwriting.

"Your story and what you represent makes you a true force for change.

"I could not be happier to have you on this very special cover. Thank you for saying yes."

In the image, Meghan's note can be seen placed on top of a blue Smythson notebook, which itself was lying atop an issue of the magazine in question.

Adut can be seen in the top left-hand corner of the publication, in a shoot by the late photographer Peter Lindbergh.

"Can't be real. It's my absolute pleasure and honour," the model captioned the social media post.

When the issue came out last month, she revealed the moment she found out the Duchess – who this week launched a new charity clothing collection – had chosen her as one of the 15 women selected for the cover.

"Vogue told me they had a surprise for me and they would call in a couple of hours and when the phone rang it was her," Adut told The Daily Telegraph.

"She said that I was an inspiration, I couldn't believe that she was calling me an inspiration."

The model – who has walked the catwalk for the likes of Saint Laurent, Valentino and Fendi – was a child refugee who moved with her family from South Sudan to Kenya.

At the age of seven, they emigrated to Adelaide and at 16 she began her modelling career.

Last month, Adut criticised Who Magazine after they published a feature article on her but accidentally used an image of another model.

In the accompanying interview she had discussed the issue of race and diversity within the modelling industry.

"With the article, they published a large photo saying it was me, but it was of another black girl," she said in a statement.

"Not only do I feel personally insulted and disrespected, but I feel like my entire race has been disrespected too.

"I feel as though this wouldn't have happened to a white model."
