Male doctor sparks outrage after moaning his pregnant wife is being lazy
So it's no surprise that people are outraged by a man who's gone on a Reddit rant to accuse his expectant wife of being "lazy".
In his post, the man explains that he and his wife are both 32 and doctors.
He writes: "I work a lot (currently 55-60 hours a week on average) and am an attending physician.
"My wife is still finishing her fellowship training. But her fellowship is outpatient based and her hours are great. Maybe 30 hours a week she is in clinic.
"We are currently expecting our first child and naturally we're very excited."
He continues: "I want to support my wife as much as possible… but ever since we found out we were expecting, she has suddenly become very different.
"She lost interest in work, we had recent fights about her wanting to quit medicine and stop working entirely to focus on caring for the kid.
"She no longer helps out around the home. I have to do all the laundry, cooking, dish washing, trash, bathroom cleaning because she says she is tired all the time.
"It's not that she is physically confining herself at home because she is feeling fatigued.
"She is often still out and about either hanging out with her co-fellows and girlfriends or sits at home watching TV."
Shockingly, the man then says: "I blew up at her yesterday when she didn't go out to pick up some groceries when I asked her to prior to leaving for work.
"I yelled at her that being pregnant does not automatically make you unable to do anything."
He was also furious that his wife had bought an expensive pram for their son or daughter, adding: "Maybe I was also still upset she had blown $1200 (£933) on a ridiculous Uppababy stroller without checking with me first last week.
"For context, I make at least $550k (£427,949) a year at my current working hours, she makes about 60k (£46,685) as a fellow.
"I feel like I'm the one shouldering 90% of that expense."
The man finished his post by asking if he was being unreasonable – and understandably, the general consensus was that he was.
One Redditor commented: "She works 30 hours a week and is pregnant, is flooded with hormones and is probably a bit depressed, losing her drive for medicine with all the nesting instinct.
"I don't know how far along she is, but she probably has some symptoms, and it can be a bit physically exhausting."
Another wrote: "Besides what others have said regarding hormones and depression, pregnancy makes you just flat-out plain ol' tired. All the freakin' time. No matter how far along you are.
"A pregnant woman can fall asleep at the drop of a hat."
While some agreed that his wife should have checked with him before splashing out on a stroller, most people thought the man could have handled the situation better.
One message read: "You may be earning 90% of the money, but if you think that makes you nine times as important than your wife, you aren't going to be married for very long.
"A marriage is a partnership, you are equally important."
Meanwhile, one woman charges her boyfriend £40 if he doesn’t make it home by 4am.
