I’m a professional makeup artist & Wilko is my go-to place for ALL items – their £1 Mac dupe is brilliant | The Sun

A MODEL and make-up artist has revealed where she buys her best cosmetics – and it’s a shop you’d never expect.

Sunita Thind, 40, from Derby, claims she’s totally obsessed with make-up from Wilko and the £1 products are dupes of some of the most popular brands on the market.

The savvy shopper spends hundreds on Wilko make-up hauls and says people turn their nose up at the cheap collection, but they’re missing out.

“I’ve been clearing the shelves at Wilko for years,” she confesses. “Everytime I’m in town I’ll head straight to the store and stock up on Essence make-up.

“There’s lip liner for 70p, eye pencils for £1 and blusher for just £2.50 – and it’s all as good as the designer stuff.”

Not everyone can afford Dior and Lancome and according to Sunita, they don’t need to.

I’m a traveller & love getting my home sparkling – the £1.50 Wilko buy you need

“People avoid cheap make-up because they think it’ll look rubbish, but they’re wrong,” she states. “You can forget £15 Max Factor lipsticks – Wilko matte lippies cost £3 and you won’t know the difference.

“Stop buying Mac’s £18.50 lip pencils, too. Essence 8hr matte lip pencils are a perfect dupe and cost £1.

“Plus, Body Collection liquid blush (£3.50) is a dupe of Daniel Sandler’s £18 watercolour. It’s a no brainer, really.”

When she’s not modelling for catalogues and music videos, Sunita uses her Wilko make-up on clients – and they can’t believe their eyes.

“Asian brides always ask for a princess look on their wedding day. I’ll lay out a selection of branded make-up and they almost always pick the Wilko stuff. They’re stunned when I tell them where it’s from.”

Not everyone is so amazed by Sunita’s budget buys. Her mum shuns what she calls ‘cheap tat’ and snooty directors force her to wipe off Wilko make-up on photoshoots.

“People can be such snobs but I don’t care. I’m proud to wear cheap make-up and I save thousands a year by avoiding costly big name brands.

“I was once given a Lancome eyeshadow palette worth £40 and I barely ever used it – why buy expensive make-up and worry about it running out? It’s ridiculous.”

Sunita’s Wilko obsession is so huge, she’s had to buy big boxes to store it all in her home, away from her husband’s disapproving eye.

“He’s always having to pull me away from the Wilko make-up counter. If I go alone, he knows I’ll clear the shelves – I’ve done it before.

“He says I could open a shop with how much I own, but I can’t help topping up everytime I go into the store – what if they sell out?”

Instead of snubbing cheap make-up, Sunita’s urging us to give it a try – it’s one of her biggest beauty secrets.

“There’s such a misconception around budget make-up. People think it makes you look cheap but with the right technique you can look like a film star.

“Other models and make-up artists are always gushing over my looks, and their jaws drop to the floor when I say it’s Wilko – they can’t believe how good it looks.”
