I’m a midsize mum of 12 – I'm done with trying to look 'skinny' and squeezing into smaller sizes | The Sun

A MIDSIZE mum has revealed she's done with trying to look 'skinny' and feels empowered after embracing her curves.

Zoe Sullivan, 43, has struggled with the way she look for as long as she can remember and battled an eating disorder as a teen.

The mum of 12, said she spent most of her young adult life "trying to be, and stay skinny".

On her Instagram, Zoe, from Lossiemouth, Moray, said: "But, do you know what, even when I was skinny, I still wasn’t truly happy with how I looked, because the truth is, it really doesn’t make any difference at all!!

"I don’t strive to be skinny anymore, but liking what I see in the mirror is sometimes really hard!

"I spent so many years trying to squeeze into a certain size and being distraught if I had to buy a bigger size, whereas in actual fact, women’s sizing is all over the place and the size differences in shops are huge!!

"I couldn’t accept the size number I was and it’s something I still find hard, even though I know it really doesn’t matter."

But Zoe, who had her first child at 26, is now trying to be kinder to herself and embrace body positivity.

And she's taken a big step by sizing up in jeans instead of trying to squeeze herself into smaller clothes.

She said: "I bought these jeans from Shein the other day in a size 18.

"I sized up because I haven’t worn jeans in years and I knew if I got them and they felt too tight, I wouldn’t wear them and that would then put me off jeans for another eternity.

"They felt great!! A little big but great none the less and it gave me a massive confidence boost which I needed.

"I have neglected myself over the past few months for one reason or another, which is so easy to do, but it has left me feeling a bit lost.

"So I’m back to being kinder to myself and trying to like what I see in the mirror because no one should be defined by the size of their clothes."

Social media users have applauded Zoe for her honest post and insisted the labels on clothes mean nothing.

One said: "You look amazing. I have clothes in my wardrobe from an 8 to a 14, XS to XL, they all fit me, clothing sizes are just random numbers I swear."

A second wrote: "Let's not forget that your amazing body has also grown 12 lovely children.

"Thank you for being so honest and transparent. And clothing sizes mean absolutely bugger all."
