I'm a bikini waxer – my top tips for a smooth finish and the common mistakes people make between appointments | The Sun

GETTING your bikini line, or any other body part, waxed doesn't have to be an entirely painful experience.

Stacey Laricchia, a veteran in the beauty industry, shared her top tips for anyone going under the wax strip.

The beauty technician is the driving force behind the wax spa franchise The Birthday Suit, which has locations across several states.

Stacey, a born and bred East coaster, made the move to Nevada, where "the allure of Las Vegas" drew her in.

It was there that she continued her work in the beauty industry, becoming "a wizard with body waxing, on my way to building my own empire."

The expert spoke to The U.S. Sun about her best advice for pre and post-appointment care.

Stacey referenced the pre-wax guidelines provided by The Birthday Suit.

The first recommendation is to stop shaving or waxing for two to three weeks before your appointment.

She explained: "[This] ensures that your hair is at the optimal length for effective waxing."

Stacey highlighted the importance of staying hydrated and exfoliating to ensure your skin is in the best condition before waxing.

She also advised anyone planning to get a wax to avoid excessive sun exposure.

"Overexposed skin can be sensitive, and waxing might exacerbate any irritation," she said.

For her next tip, Stacey suggested avoiding medications and relaxants as a way to help the pain.

Debunking the myth, she explained: "They can interfere with the process and might lead to undesirable reactions."

Finally, the waxing technician recommended wearing loose-fitting clothing to your appointment to allow your skin to breathe and to help prevent friction.

And when you leave the waxing spa, Stacey advises against participating in any GTL for 24 to 48 hours.

The acronym refers to the famous Jersey Shore phrase "Gym, Tan, Laundry."

However, when it comes to post-wax care, Stacey subbed in a more strenuous activity.

"No Gym, Tanning, or Lovin', this catchy slogan underscores the importance of avoiding activities that could introduce bacteria into freshly waxed areas or cause further irritation," she explained.

The expert also revealed some of the common mistakes she sees clients make between sessions.

She shared that over-exfoliation can make the skin more sensitive, which is not ideal when it comes to waxing.

Stacey also advised against going crazy when it comes to trimming your body hair in preparation for your appointment.

"There's a fine line here, trim it too short, and we can't wax it effectively, setting you back by another couple of weeks of growth," she said.

And finally, the technician revealed "the cardinal sin of waxing," shaving between appointments.

She explained: "Waxing reduces hair growth over time, with the most significant reduction seen after the first few cycles.

"Shaving between sessions disrupts this cycle, in essence, when you shave, you're negating the benefits of your previous waxing sessions, forcing you to start the process anew," Stacey said.

For a successful waxing experience, she highlighted the importance of "patience and trust in the process."

And whether you're getting waxed for Valentine's Day or in the lead-up to Halloween, inexplicably one of the busiest times of the year for The Birthday Suit, Stacey revealed her top waxing tip: consistency.

"Consistent waxing provides a noticeable reduction in regrowth after each appointment," she explained.

Stacey also recommended avoiding DIY waxing kits, sighting poor quality wax and lack of experience as her main reasons.

She shared: "Not too long ago, a distressed guest arrived with her skin covered in hardened wax.
