I only go shopping for my family of ten once a year, it costs me £3.7k but it makes things so much easier
DOING the food shop is easily one of the most boring chores on a mum’s to-do list.
However, one mum has revealed how she limits the dreaded supermarket shop to just once a year, stocking up on enough supplies to keep her family-of-ten going for 12 months.
Shelby, who shares family recipes on her YouTube channel TheQueensCabinet, revealed her huge haul for the year in a recent video.
The enormous shop feeds herself, husband, sons as well as her uncle, brother and cousins who have been staying with her during the pandemic and sets the family back £3,700 a year – roughly £70 a week.
And while attempting to do all of your food shopping for the year at once might seem daunting to some, for Shelby it’s a no brainer.
Captioning her video, she explained: “Once a year our family stocks the pantry, freezers, cleaning closets, office supplies, laundry room and personal care items.
“Did I mention I really hate shopping and just want to get it over with?”
Shelby’s bumper shop at Trader Joe’s in Syracuse consists mainly of pantry items including 49 packets of pasta, 24 cans of tomato paste, 45lbs of rice and 199 cans of soda.

The mum also stocks her freezers full of meat including whole chickens and mince as well as buying bathroom products such as eight bottles of mouthwash.
When it comes to fresh products, Shelby has her own personal supply at home.
She explains: “We supplement with fresh produce and a few items here and there throughout the year, and really stay on budget because we don't go out to eat very often.
“We raise chickens for eggs, have an orchard, garden, blueberries, elderberries, nut trees and a stocked rainbow trout fish pond.
“We are adding walnut trees, grape vines, two persimmon trees, and boysenberry bushes next spring.”
