I compared a popular breakfast cereal with Aldi's own brand to see if I could notice the difference, here's how I got on | The Sun

A KEEN bargain hunter compared a popular breakfast cereal with a supermarket’s own brand to see if it’s really worth splashing out on – and people have been left stunned by the results.

Becca tried both the branded Weetabix and Aldi’s bargain version to see if there were any notable differences, despite the Aldi version being three times cheaper.

Surprisingly, the foodie preferred the discount supermarket’s version and suggested that she’d be making a permanent swap.

Known online as @beccaeatseverything, the vlogger regularly shares food comparisons with her 72,900 followers.

In a new TikTok reel, she said: “Hello, my foodies.

“In the name of the cost of living crisis, we are doing a food comparison.

“We’ve got Aldi Wheat Bisks versus Weetabix.”

Holding up Aldi’s version, she adds: “You get 36 in a pack here. These are £1.99. That’s a bargain, that is.”

Then showing the Weetabix box, she continued: “These, you get 12, and they are £2.

“There’s a penny difference, but yet you get 24 more wheat biscuits in the Aldi’s.

“So let’s try them and see if they are god awful or really good, and whether you should still fork out for the brand.

“Now some people say it is the work of the devil to put your milk in first, which is why I’m not going to do it because I am an angel.

“Let’s try the Aldi ones first.

“When I was a kid, I used to have Weetabix and we used to have yogurt in it.

“Yogurt and Weetabix is the best thing and it’s got to be warm. I’m sorry, but it’s got to be warmed up.

“But now, as an adult, I don’t put yogurt in my Weetabix. I’m sorry if you still do that. I don’t do that.

“I just put sugar on it, just loads of sugar. Loads of sugar.

“Okay, you’ve got to have two. When I was a kid I used to have six.”

First, Becca compares the look of the two brands and claims the Aldi version is less crumbly in texture.

“Side by side…the Weetabix is the lighter one in colour. It’s also a lot more crumbly.

“The Aldi one, immediately, is more compressed together. I don’t know whether that will affect the flavour.

“Let’s add the milk.”

After Becca adds soy milk to both bowls, before waiting a few moments for the milk to soak in and soften the cereal.

After a bite of Aldi’s, she adds: “Fine and dandy. They’re fine, there’s nothing wrong with them.

“Not that there would be, but there’s nothing wrong with them.

“They’ve softened but they’ve still got that nice little bit of crisp to them.

“Nice flavour. I mean they don’t really have that much flavour but the texture is key here…and the texture is absolutely fine.

“I’d be more than happy to have these, and like I said, price…you think about the price. Just saying.”

The foodie then goes on to try the Weetbix, also covering them in soy milk before waiting a few moments for them to soften.

She continues: “Oh lordy lord, I’m with the Aldi right here.

“I don’t like the texture of the Weetabix, having now tried them side by side.

“It almost tastes stale. I don’t like it, it’s not enjoyable.”

Trying another spoonful of Aldi’s Wheat Bisks, she adds: “This right here, I’m sorry Weetabix, so much better in taste, texture, flavour.

“The Weetabix ones, I’m just not enjoying.”

Fans loved her honesty, with the video gaining more than 800 likes and 12,900 views.

In the comments, TikTok users shared their reactions, with one writing: “Love this style of vid! I always add milk, then flip it so it’s soaked on both sides.”

“Asda ones are made by Weetabix, you can confirm this by code on packet. Tesco ones are the best and cheapest,” another suggested.

A third commented: “I think proper wheetabix tastes kind of greasy.”

Someone else put: “Sainsbury’s ones are just the same as Weetabix, but a third of the price.”
