'Forward thinking' Meghan Markle and Prince Harry top Time's most influential list but Kate Middleton and Prince William are snubbed

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have been named as two of the top 25 Most Influential People on the Internet by Time magazine – but Kate Middleton and Prince William failed to make the cut.

The US magazine praised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's "forward-thinking and cause-orientated" approach to social media and how it is "establishing their identity beyond the crown".

Harry and Meghan's @sussexroyal account broke the world record for the fastest time for an account to reach one million followers when it was created in April.

Six hours after the couple launched their new Instagram account, they had already hit the one million mark – and shot up to 2.2 million the following morning.

The couple currently have 9.1m followers and are just 400,000 behind Kate and William's official Kensington Palace account.

The magazine entry read: "While baby photos are among @SussexRoyal's draws, most posts are dedicated to the pair's work as royals."

Each month, Harry and Meghan have been using their Instagram account to highlight charitable causes close to them – such as mental health and climate change – and Time noted how this "savvy strategy has driven headlines".

Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed their plans to split from the Royal Foundation they shared with Prince William and Kate Middleton to found their own charitable institution.

The American magazine also included President Donald Trump as one of the most influential individuals on the internet as well as female stars Ariana Grande, Cardi B and Jameela Jamil.

But despite the fact that Kate and William have MORE followers than Meghan and Harry and have been using the platform since January 2013, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were not listed in the round-up of influential people on the internet.

However, this isn't the first time Meghan has been praised for her global influence while Kate has been overlooked.

Earlier this year, Vogue hailed "revolutionary" Meghan Markle among their 25 Most Influential Women of 2019 whereas her sister-in-law was noticeably absent.

The fashion bible also included the Duchess of Sussex in their list of best-dressed stars of 2018 while Kate missed out.

Yet Tatler named the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge among their bonkers "powerful" people list last month along with seven-year-old Harper Beckham and Jamie Redknapp.

Shortly afterwards, Fabulous Digital exclusively revealed that Meghan Markle had been snubbed from the list over her "feud" with Kate Middleton as the magazine's editor Richard Dennen is a university pal of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

A source told Fabulous Digital: "He was chums with Wills and Kate at St Andrews. This may be his way of showing his allegiance. He's traditional in his approach so maybe he's not a huge fan of Meghan"

In more Royal Family news, Meghan Markle has claimed "they don't make it easy" as she opens up to Pharrell about struggles with public life.
