Environmental Health officer Kate McCormack scoops best dressed at Punchestown

It was a case of ‘winner alright’ for stylish Kate Nally McCormack as she galloped home with the big fashion prize on day two of the Punchestown festival.

An Environmental Health Officer and mum-of-three girls, she decided to swap a day of inspecting kitchens for some racing fun as a guest of Longford GAA. She looked chic in a flowing red and ivory dress from Self Portrait which she accessorised with some key pieces from Zara which she bought this morning at the last-minute. Her hat came from Suzanne Ryan Millinery and helped her clinch the win in the Bollinger Best Dressed lady contest.

“I’m absolutely thrilled. I come here every year for the Longford day so to bring it back hom, I’m delighted,” she told independent.ie.

And it was a case of history repeating itself for the glam mum.

“I won this day last year and I came on the final on Friday and I obviously didn’t win so I’m just thrilled again to be in the same situation,” she said.

She had been searching for a while for the perfect dress to go with her smokey-grey headpiece and wanted something practical for the weather.

“I saw this dress and I thought, it’s perfect for the races because it’s sunny but it’s still a bit cool so it’s lovely to have something with long sleeves and it’s a bit more elegant, I think. I had this headpiece already so I said, ‘This is the dress so I’ll put it together and hope for the best.”

There with her husband Michael, she said she was going to celebrate the win with a “few glasses of bubbly” and would definitely return for the overall final this Friday.

Huge crowds made their way to the Kildare racecourse this afternoon with the official  start of summer bringing warm temperatures and sunny spells, with a party atsmophere prevailing at the venue.
