Cara Delevingne leads emotional farewell in Karl Lagerfeld's final Chanel show
Cara Delevingne and Penelope Cruz led the finale runway in what was Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection for Chanel.
The British supermodel (26) has long been a muse of a the late designer, who died of pancreatic cancer last month, and fronted the final lap of models at the brand’s Paris Fashion Week show this morning, during which some models struggled to keep in their tears. Chanel transformed the Grand Palais into a winter wonderland with inches of fake snow, a ski lodge and makeshift mountains while fashion editors and celebrities observed from the front row. Cruz, who worked with Lagerfeld a number of times over the years, was also one of the well-known stars to walk the runway and honour the designer.
17-year-old Kaia Gerber, who has been walking for Chanel for nearly two years, was also visibly touched by the celebration of his life’s work.
Kristen Stewart, who is the face of the French fashion house’s makeup range, wore a navy blue catsuit emblazoned with the Chanel logo, while Naomi Campbell, Janelle Monae and Claudia Schiffer were all in attendance. At the start of the show, guests observed a one minute silence for Lagerfeld, who had been at the helm of the brand for 35 years.
