Bride-to-be gobsmacked after her mum points out her ‘back fat’ while she searches for her dream wedding dress
HONESTY is always the best policy – or is it?
One mother-of-the-bride took speaking her mind to the next level when she revealed she could "see back fat" during her daughter's wedding dress appointment.
Appearing on Say Yes To The Dress Lancashire, excited bride-to-be Heather was looking for a simple and elegant gown at bridal boutique, Ava Rose Hamilton.
Along with presenter Gok Wan, the bride enlisted the help of her mum Sue, along with sister, Jess and bridesmaid, Leanne to help her find her dream dress.
And when Jess and Leanne selected a lace, figure-hugging £1,399 Stella York gown for Heather to try first – it didn't go down well with mum Sue.
Even style guru Gok said he would “never have chosen that dress" for the bride.
As soon as Heather – who had a budget of £2,000-£3000 – stepped out in the gown, Sue was visibly displeased with the backless number.
"It's too old fashioned for you," she explained.
"I love the little bit of sparkle, not too over the top, beautiful train.
"It's just that back section is not doing it for me."
In an interview clip with Heather's sister later on, Sue – who is paying half the cost of the gown – shared her true thoughts to the camera.
"I'm desperately trying not to… I could see back fat," she admitted.
And sister Jess was horrified, immediately bursting out laughing at Sue's comments.
"Am I not allowed to say that?" Asked Sue.
Despite Sue's comments, it seems Heather agreed it wasn't the one for her.
"I'm not overawed by it," she explained.
"I like the pattern and I like how much lace there is.
"I feel like it's maybe making me look a bit old… It just doesn't feel right for me."
The bride explained fiance Ned, who she has been with for over six years, has his heart set on a "Meghan Markle dress".
"Ned has an idea of what he’d like to see me in,' she told Gok.
"I think he’d like to see me in something slightly plainer and less fussy."
But it seems mum Sue had a few opinions on Ned's choice too, explaining it's "not going to happen if I'm paying for it".
"Just because Heather looks a bit like Meghan, doesn’t mean she should wear her dress," she joked.
"It doesn’t matter what Ned thinks, it’s just not going to happen – not if I’m paying for it.'"
But mum Sue needn't have worried, because although Heather later tried on a plain satin gown – inspired by the Duchess of Sussex – the bride-to-be explained it was "too plain and boring".
Instead, Gok worked his magic and selected a totally different gown for Heather – a £2,835 floral lace style by popular designer Enzoani.
"I love the flowers and the detail," said Heather.
"I love the top section. I love the V. I love the volume, the drama, the excitement. It’s just absolutely beautiful.
"I don't think I've ever felt so special. Wow, this dress!"
Say Yes To The Dress Lancashire airs tonight on TLC at 9pm.
