Zayn Drops Sophomore Album ‘Icarus Falls:’ Stream It Here

After more than a year of delays, Zayn’s massive, new, 27-track album Icarus Falls is out today. Zayn originally suggested that the album would be released back in September 2017. But that obviously didn’t happen.

So after what feels like several changes of musical direction, fans have an album that that is a bit of a mixed bag of various Zayn moods. And Icarus Falls does have a number of high notes and interesting experiments — along with some songs that honestly seem more like what you might find on a mixtape.

The album includes at least nine singles that Zayn has released since his debut album, Mind of Mine, namely “Let Me,” “Entertainer,” “Sour Diesel,” “Too Much” (featuring Timbaland), “Fingers,” “No Candle No Light” (featuring Nicki Minaj), “Rainberry,” “Good Years,” and “There You Are.” Interestingly, in an era of collabs and features, that group includes the album’s only two songs with guest contributors.

Zayn received strong reviews from critics for the originality of the slightly raw, electronic R&B sound that he achieved on Mind of Mine. Unfortunately, some will likely say that quite a few tracks on Icarus Falls come off as a bit derivative of the fuzzy, soulful, falsetto electro-pop of Zayn’s maybe-someday brother-in-law, The Weeknd (for those few unaware of it, Zayn dates model Gigi Hadid, whose sister Bella dates The Weeknd).

But given just how many different sounds Zayn explores on the album, diehard fans will no doubt find something that they like. The only question is — will people beyond Zayn’s hardcore base be enticed to check out this 88-minute musical grab-bag.
