The Davie Bowie Biopic "Stardust" Has Cast Its David Bowie

The part of David Bowie has been cast in the first actual David Bowie biopic. South African actor/musician Johnny Flynn will play David as David invents Ziggy Stardust, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Johnny currently stars in Amazon’s Vanity Fair series, and also appeared in Netflix’s Lovesick and as Albert Einstein in the NatGeo series Genius. Good luck, Johnny. Unfortunately, Ziggy will NOT be playing guitar as this movie will reportedly be minus any of David’s music. So you might have a rough ride ahead of you.

Stardust will cover Bowie’s first trip to America in 1971. This is the trip that supposedly “inspired the invention of his iconic alter ego, Ziggy Stardust.” But still – no Bowie music? Bohemian Rhapsody’s chief issue may be that its fired director allegedly has a thing for underage boys but at least that flick actually had Queen’s music as a draw.

Stardust will co-star Jena Malone and Marc Maron and is being directed by Emmy-winning director Gabriel Range from a script by Christopher Bell. Shooting begins in June of this year.

As for the absence of any sort of musical contribution from even the most minor member of the Spiders from Mars in the film, well, let’s let David’s son Duncan Jones speak on that (via EW).
