The Big C actress Phyllis Somerville dies aged 76
Actress Phyllis Somerville has died at the age of 76.
The Big C star is reported to have died of natural causes in her New York home on Thursday.
The news was confirmed to Deadline by the beloved actress’ manager Paul Hilepo.
While he told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘She was the consummate professional who lived her dream of being a working actress her entire life in NYC which spanned over 45 years.
‘I will miss her greatly. Her friends and colleagues will miss her greatly as well.’
He was the actress’ agent at first before he became her manager, working with the star for over 28 years.
As well as The Big C, Phyllis also starred in NYPD Blue while she recently appeared in the original cast of To Kill A Mockingbird.
She played Atticus Finch’s elderly and racist neighbor Mrs. DuBose and appeared in the show for a full year before her final performance in November 2019.
Meanwhile, she had film roles in Little Children, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and 2019′s Poms.
Phyllis previously opened up about her role as Marlene in The Big C and the show’s approach to cancer.
Opening up in 2010 to AARP, she said: ‘I like humour that’s dark. Having had people in my family die, there was never a moment at any of the funerals where we didn’t get into some kind of giggle fit.
‘When your emotions are that close to the edge, there has to be laughter. I think that’s really good theatre, and I think these scripts do that very well.’
