The Avengers: Endgame red carpet attracted more star power than this year's Oscars

It was a family affair in every sense of the phrase as Marvel’s biggest stars came together one last time for the world premiere of Avengers: Endgame.

After the last installment of the franchise Avengers: Infinity War saw much of the cast killed by Thanos and the secrets of the new film kept under lock and key, it’s still a guessing game as to how the story ends, but its stars certainly looked good while celebrating it.

Robert Downey Jr, who plays Iron Man, and wife of 13 years Susan, were among the first to arrive at the Los Angeles Convention Centre for the lavish premiere on Monday night. Gwyneth Paltrow, who confirmed last year she would be retiring from the role of Pepper Potts, arrived in a black pleated mini-dress and a black tuxedo jacket by G. Label, a remarkably similar look to what she wore to the film’s London premiere back in 2008.

Chris Pratt, who leads the ensemble in Guardians of the Galaxy and doesn’t feature in Endgame, made his red carpet debut with new fiancée Katherine Schwarzenegger, remaining arm in and arm for most of the red carpet. Zoe Saldana in a multi-layered Givenchy dress, also represented the film alongside Bradley Cooper, who voices Rocket.

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, was joined by his wife Elsa Pataky, while also receiving the support of his brother Liam Hemsworth and sister-in-law Miley Cyrus. Scarlett Johansson, who is set for a Black Widow spin-off, opted for a shimmering strapless Versace gown with boyfriend Colin Jost as her date for the evening.

Elizabeth Olsen, aka Scarlet Witch, stunned in a plunging teal gown, while the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel, chose a silk lilac gown by Céline.

Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly also featured, and Natalie Portman, who starred in the first two Thor films, made a surprise appearance, in Dior.

Black Panther’s Danai Gurira beamed in an off the shoulder fuschia dress, while co-star Letita Wright embraced her unofficial uniform of suiting in a silver combination.

Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon and wife Luciana Barroso were also in attendance, as was Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo.

This year’s Oscars wasn’t exactly hard to beat in terms of star power, but last night’s red carpet put paid to any doubt that Marvel isn’t the biggest game in town.
